Heart Chakra

Some days later…. life just seems to get in the way sometimes.  That is okay though.  I knew that between working doubles, trying to get chores done, and taking care of myself I had to slow down and focus on the day-to-day.  Meditation is a practice, it doesn’t always come easily, sometimes you don’t have more than 3 minutes to sit down and close your eyes.  Some days you are too tired to write, or go inward… and really those are the most important days to do that.  I have to remember to make the time even if I simply write for myself, and meditate for 5 minutes it will make all the difference in staying balanced.

The Fourth chakra, our heart chakra, is the powerhouse of the human energy system.  This chakra mediates between the body and spirit.  Anahata means “unhurt,” “unstuck,” and “unbeaten.”  The heart chakra is full of compassion, love and beauty.  This is an emotional chakra that helps our emotional development in teaching us how to act in love and compassion.  An open heart chakra allows for a harmonious exchange of energy in the body and the ability to see beauty in everyone and everything.  However, a blockage can lead to excessive jealousy, codependency, being closed down, withdrawn, and difficulty relating to others.  Primary fears and issues include, inability to protect oneself emotionally, fear of emotional weakness and betrayal, inability to “follow ones heart,” and being unable to forgive others as well as yourself.  As children we react to our world with a range of emotions we learn how to control our emotional climate as we grow and strive for a state of steadiness.  However, realizing that emotions are like clouds that come and go can be difficult to remember.  Emotions are powerful and we tend to get  caught up in them; however, they are momentary and they will pass.  Ruled by the element of air, our heart chakra is closely related to our breath.  It is important to remember to breath, it is amazing how takinga moment can calm our agitated mind and cool our heated emotions.

The heart chakra is all about connecting and relating with the emphasis being love.  “Love is divine power,” it has an endless capacity to forgive, express beauty and compassion.  Some see mental energy as being superior to emotional energy; yet, emotional energy is the true motivator of the human body and spirit.  In addition, out emotions tend to rule our mental landscape.  We spend our lives learning to love ourselves and others.  We are attracted to it, we crave it, we are motivated by it, inspired by it, healed and destroyed by it.  The key is to move past our ego and learn the lessons of love that each person presents us.  The stages of love follow the design of our chakras; we first learn to love within our tribe our roots.  We move on to our second chakra where we learn to love “outsiders.”  The third chakra allows us to discover love of external things, our personal, physical, and material loves (academics, athletics, clothing, dating, home, and body).  The first three chakras are related to love in the external world.  The fourth chakra bridges the lower chakras with the upper chakras and we begin to seek higher vibrations and we begin learn about loving ourselves.  By awakening the conscious self we start to enter the interior of our own hearts.  We need to understand our own emotions, what we love, what are strengths and weaknesses are, how to remain balanced.  We need to learn how to rely upon ourselves and bring happiness into our loves all on our own.
